3rd meeting done

Hello blog world!

Well, we just had our 3rd and last meeting before we meet again january 7th which is going to be our packing day! I am so excited, nervous, and anxious because there is still do much to be done!!! I just got my community nursing textbook today so hopefully I can be prepared and not be behind in my class work!! I am struggling with these Nclex questions Gigi has assigned us to do! 100 Nclex questions and we need 80% or higher in one session! Ugh I am on my third attempt! I am glad we are doing this because it's a great way to prepare us for the hesi and nclex!!! Well, I have busy work to be getting done so I am off doing that! Again, we need more and more donations! After attending the meeting it was brought to my attention that we need more multivitamins! So please any donation counts! Please check our flyer for the current list of donations! Thank you and God Bless!

SOOOO Busy!!!! Here's an update!!

*We have been practicing in open lab to help us prepare for our trip!!!
*Finally got my vaccinations and medications all set!!! Can't wait to experience the side effects!!!
*On an exciting note! Chamberlain College of Nursing asked us for our permission to broadcast our blog on the Chamberlain websites so all of Chamberlain College of Nursing across the country can take a look at what we are experiencing!!!!! No idea this was going to happen! It all started off just wanting to blog for our journal entry assignments for class!
*Finally!!! There is still time to DONATE!!! We have all been assigned 2 families to help take care of and donate what we can to them! So please help us out to help them out!!!
Heres a little background of both families:

Family number one: Has 6 people in the family. 2 adults and 4 children. 1 (13 yr old girl), 1 (11 yr old girl), 1 (9 yr old girl), and a little boy who is 1 yr old.

Family number two: Has also 6 people in the family. 2 adults and 4 children: 1 (5 yr old boy), 1 (3 yr old girl), 1 yr old girl, and a 13 yr old girl!!

Open Lab Fun

Is there anything better to do on a Friday than to go to Open Lab? Don't judge -- the 4 of us (Danielle, Diane, Dave, and myself) got BOTH skills checklists completed. Full head-to-toe assessments, vital signs, wound care, patient education, and more. Oh, and we managed to snap some pics of us in action...

Danielle looks on as Aileen practices IM injections on the pad.
Look at the size of that needle! Aileen could only find a 16 gauge. OUCH!
Abdominal palpation!

Danielle helps Aileen out on her wound packing skills
Aileen listens to Diane's heart sounds during a
practice head-to-toe assessment

Dave assessing for clubbing of Danielle's fingers?
Perhaps her capillary refill time?

42 more days and counting...

42!!! We can't believe it. Time has been moving incredibly fast! We just had our 2nd meeting today where we basically got the run-down on how things are gonna go from now and all the way through the time when we return. There is so much to do, and yet I still have my current classes going on that I need to tend to. Checklists upon checklists of stuff to buy, immunizations to still get, books to buy, nursing skills checks, journal entries, and so on.

On the other hand, we got our International Volunteer Cards today as well as a biography of the families each of us are sponsoring individually. What makes this really exciting is we will each get to meet our "families" when we finally make it out there. It truly puts into perspective the purpose of our trip.

Donations continue to come in and both Danielle and I couldn't be happier. We still need your help though! We will literally be accepting any and all donations through January 6th. Don't hesitate to call or email us.

Great job Aileen

Now that everything is coming together I am getting more and more excited!!!!!! Can't wait for the Philippines!!!

If this nursing thing doesn't work out...

We can totally design flyers for a living! It took a couple weeks, but between getting settled in our new schedules for this session and work, it just happened to take longer than we wanted. We are excited to say that the flyer is finally here.

New information

So just a little background of this great experience!!!

"Chamberlain College of Nursing’s focus on student success extends well beyond the classroom and clinical environments. Chamberlain provides students with opportunities to expand their educational horizons through a full spectrum of social, cause-related and field experiences."

So our school enables Chamberlain students from across the globe to participate in an experience of a lifetime! We will be going to the Philippines January 9th for 17 days. The first week we will be in Pampanga, Cabatuan, Isabela. The second week we will be in Nueva Ecija, Manila. I am super excited!

I am filipino, however I have not been to the Philippines since I was a baby so I can say I have not "been there."

We will be joining a medical team there where we will be focusing on patient care beyond what we have learned in the classroom, cultural diversity, and learning about ourselves! I am so excited to post and share this experience with everyone! Our posts are actually apart of our assignments so this is another reason why we started a blog! Enjoy!!!
